Add Symbols Dialog

When the Add button is clicked from the Symbols dialog the Add Symbols dialog is displayed. From this dialog box symbols are placed on a list, and then, depending on what type of symbols they are to be, certain information is specified, such as a range of strike months for options and futures. A reduced version of the Symbol Finder utility is accessible from this dialog by pressing the Find button. When all inputs have been made, clicking Generate will cause the symbols to be generated and added to the list of symbols on the Symbols dialog, where they can be arranged in whatever fashion desired. Symbols already on the list will not be re-added.

Adding Base Symbols

To add a base symbol to the list simply enter the symbol into the Symbol edit box and then click the Add button. To access the Symbol Finder from here, type the part of the symbol known and then click the Find button, which displays the Find Symbols dialog. No two symbols that are exactly the same may be on the list.

Removing and Positioning Base Symbols

To remove symbols from this list, select the ones to be removed and then click on the Remove button. To clear the list, click on the Remove All button. To reposition symbols on the list, select the symbols to be moved and then click the arrow pointing in the desired direction.

Specifying Symbol Information

Once a list of base symbols has been compiled, the information about those base symbols should then be determined. The following information may be specified about the symbols:

Symbol Type specifies whether the symbols will be Stocks, Stock Options, Futures or Future Options. Some types may not be available with some vendors. If this is a problem, contact Montgomery Investment Technology, Inc. to see if those features have been made available or will be made available. This often depends on the quote vendor.

Expiration Month allows for a range of expiration months to be generated for each symbol. For instance, if the symbol 'C' for Corn futures is on the list and the selected range is from August to October, three symbols will be generated for August, September and October. Selecting the All Months button will select the entire list, except for the "Spot/Cash Quote" and "No Month Code" items. The "No Month Code" item is offered for the event that certain quote vendors have different methods of reporting Index values.

Trading Hours provides for both regular and after hours trading.

Expiration Year determines the year of expiration for the symbols.

Strike Price determines the strike price for the symbols.

Option Type specifies whether the symbols are to be calls or puts.
